As India is transforming itself from “developing” to “developed” country, the ready-mix concrete (RMC) industry is steadily gaining pace as the most viable option to speed up construction. Use of RMC in the construction industry aids in saving time and less hustle at the construction site, and the RMC segment is the fastest-growing application of concrete superplasticizer market.

In the West, RMC consumes 60 per cent of total cement production. However, RMC accounts for 8 per cent of overall cement demand in India, and this share is expected to increase up to 25 per cent by 2025.

The vision

Setting his mission to cater to the RMC needs of evolving Indian market, Abhijit Lunkad, CEO, Birla Shakti Concrete, travelled around the world, took a look at the world-leading concrete plants and decided to make a world-class concrete plant in India. His vision was not only “Make In India” but also “Make For India”.

Recently, Lunkad has showcased the largest RMC and aggregate production plant in India. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Pune, the plant produces the complete range of market-leading, high-performance concrete mixes from M7.5 to M110 grades (including M10 pumpable concrete), designed to meet stringent IS Code specifications and new-age construction applications, including custom lightweight architectural and structural precast concrete.

“With this plant,’ says Lunkad, “we have set up India’s single largest, fully automated concrete manufacturing facility, a testament to our commitment to meet the country’s growing demand for high-performance, cost-effective and eco-friendly building solutions.”

The plant
The plant is spread across an area of 25,000 sq metres and houses a fully automated, computer-aided design (CAD) manufacturing facility, including Putzmeister truck mounted moli pumps, Putzmeister boom placer, a state-of-the-art concrete testing lab and water recycling plant. Its Liebherr transit mixers mounted on AMW vehicles and complete with GPS tracking systems ensures prompt and timely delivery. The plant operates under most stringent, self-imposed quality control regimen in the industry and is acknowledged as the market leader for on-time delivery and commitment to excellence, strength and durability.

The onsite research and testing laboratory and demonstration facility not only develops concrete, meeting specific type of application and jobsite requirements but also schedules regular training workshops to educate customers, contractors, distributors and all other industry partners on the developments in the concrete production.
